Visiting Dad on Campus

Lucas has really become a daddy's boy lately. He loves to visit his dad on campus, and he even knows how to get to his dad's office from the parking lot. Ryan has been really busy lately getting some testing done. He spent like 16 hours on campus yesterday. To make up for the time spent away from home, Lucas and I took his meals to him and spent time with him while he ate. Ryan has an office with windows, but the water tunnel that he's running his tests in is in the basement of the Clyde.
Checking out the water tunnel. It's huge!

Here's the mechanism he's been working on.

And here is a video of it outside of the water so you can see what it's doing.

I may have eaten 3 of these today...

I found a new cinnamon roll recipe that is amazing. It's actually more a way to twist the rolls than anything else. You could do this with any recipe.

I like this twisting method way better, because they look awesome, and there is less dough in the center so the rolls cook more evenly. I like soft centers, but not mushy uncooked centers. The Simply So Good blog always has amazing recipes.

Even though I think Lucas has been in the terrible twos for a while, now that he is actually two I have something to blame it on. He unzipped the couch cushions today and made a little nest for himself out of the stuffing. I wish I had gotten a picture. He also thinks that hand lotion is hair gel, and he loves to spike his hair. It drives me crazy.

But doesn't he look like such a stud in his new birthday clothes?

Lucas Turns Two

We celebrated Lucas's 2nd birthday on Saturday with some family. We took him to the park to play with cousins. Lucas was in heaven, (despite his face in the first photo).

I made some mini cupcakes so the kids had something fun and bite sized to eat.

I made my own sugar sprinkles for the top. So easy! I would definitely recommended it.

We opened presents...

And blew out the candles.

The kids had such a good time, and Lucas went to bed early that night because he was so worn out from all the fun. He got some wonderful presents too, and it was like Christmas morning the next day when he went from one thing to the next, so excited he couldn't decide what he wanted to play with more.

Yesterday we got two birthday packages, one from cousin Dallin with some play food in it. Lucas is a little confused. It looks so yummy.

The other one was from Grandma and Grandpa Crapo.

Lucas had so much fun opening all the presents, he was disappointed when they were all gone.

I have trained him very well, though. When he opened the clothes he held them up to himself and said, "cute". He is so stinking adorable. We can't believe what a little character he has turned out to be. He is just so much fun. He is such a daredevil too, I just don't know what we're going to do with him. Happy birthday little scamp!

Potty Training Update

We are in our third week of potty training. Lucas is doing great. We even took him to church in his underwear yesterday. Yikes! But no accidents, the whole day actually. Lucas had like 3 days last week with no accidents.

I've gotten a couple remarks about how early I started potty training him, and although I think it's perfectly acceptable to start potty training at two regardless of the circumstances, I think Lucas was especially ready. Lucas has been notifying us when he has to go poop for months now. We had the potty chair sitting in the family room to get him used to sitting on it, and he would take off his diaper and go in the potty all by himself, but then try to transport the cup with pee in it to the toilet by himself too. And sometimes he decided the floor would be just as good a place to pee as the potty chair. So we decided that as long as we were going to have pee all over the house anyway, we might as well get him trained at the same time.

And now after two weeks we're happy we did. We might not have been happy at day two, but we're happy now. And so is our bank account!

Ha! I love that picture. He was just dancing, but his face is hilarious.

New Videos

It's been a while since we posted videos so I thought I'd get a few on here. Lucas has grown up so much in the last few months. We are just amazed every day at the changes we see in him. He's all over the place and learning new words and getting into trouble. He is definitely not a baby anymore.

This first video is of Lucas dancing to the Woody's Round-up song in the credits of Toy Story 2. He loves to dance to this song.

Lucas gets very animated when he pretends to talk on the phone. He's actually started to be interested in talking on the phone for real too.

Lucas loves to read books with his Daddy. He's also gotten really good at his colors. He still can't figure out yellow.

This last video is my favorite. Lucas knows almost all of his letters now. He still gets M, N, W, and U mixed up, but him saying Q is probably the cutest thing in the world. Unfortunately we didn't get him saying Q on camera because he got bored after only a few letters. I had been doing letters with him for a while before we thought to get out the camera. Oh well.

Warm Weather Food

Since it's warming up outside I decided to break out the ice cream maker. I decided to make some berry frozen yogurt. I've tried to make raspberry sorbet before but the sifter I have wasn't a fine enough mesh to get the seeds so it just didn't turn out very good. Then I found a fine mesh sieve at the store and I was instantly in love. It worked perfectly.

I got some corn on the cob to go with our summery meal.

Lucas was a huge fan.

And this doesn't have to do with food, but Lucas has been a huge daddy's boy lately. He ran and hopped into bed to cuddle with dad the other morning and I just had to get a picture. So cute!

Little Boys Ties

I used this tutorial to make some new ties for Lucas. I did some adjusting to the pattern to make it the right size for Lucas. And I used material that I already had. The green one used to be a pair of pajamas. Now Lucas has more cute stuff to wear to church.

Addicted

I knew I loved blogs, but there's nothing like the absence of something to make you realize just how addicted you really are. I feel like I haven't gotten to read new posts in like a week. The last hour of catching up was probably the best hour of my day. Thank you Blogger, for finally fixing everything.

Also, completely unrelated, but I love Parks and Recreation. I started watching this show a few weeks ago and now I'm hooked. I'm going to have to go back and see what I've been missing. Ben and Leslie are my favorite couple on TV right now.

Potty Training

Well, I've officially started. Lucas has been ready for a while now so I just had to summon my courage and actually do it. It really hasn't been too bad, although I've also only been doing it for four days. Lucas has known how to pee on command since he was 18 months, now I just have to convince him that he only wants to do it in the toilet. We've had a few accidents, but we've also have quite a few successes, including some number 2 in the designated receptacle. Always a good thing!

I just love how cute his little bum looks in his underwear.

Mother's Day

I have been waiting to do a post on mother's day because I wanted to get a picture of my present. I took one today and it was pretty pathetic so I just decided to use the one from online.

I may have done more than hint to Ryan to get this for me, but he did a pretty good job of convincing me that he forgot to get it so I was still surprised. It's from one of those places where you can get the pendants with the names of your kids to add to it. Now I just have to wait for the next holiday.

Last year Lucas started saying mama on mother's day. He had said it before, but then he gave that up in favor of dada. But on mother's day he started saying it again and hasn't stopped since. I tried really hard to get him to start saying "I love you mama" this year but all I got was "no mama!"... close enough.

The little rascal that made me a mom.

Yoga

Me and Bret doing Tree Pose 7 years ago

I used to do Yoga all the time with my brother and sister back before I got married. Then I decided I'd rather stay in bed with my husband than get up with the sun to do sun salutations at the park. Also, our favorite yoga teacher had a baby so she was out of commission. Then I had a baby... anyway, I stopped working out all together for a while there. Then about a year and a half ago some friends of mine started a morning exercise group. We were doing cardio and weights and stuff but I was exercising again and on a much more regular basis than I had ever done in my life basically. I felt pretty good.

But just recently I started working some yoga in to my exercises. I was working out after Lucas went to bed because that was the only time I had and I wanted to do something more low impact. I forgot how much I LOVE yoga. And I'm actually getting an intense work out too. I've been doing it like 3 or 4 times a week now and I'm amazed at how much happier I feel when I'm done. Maybe it's just because I'm really good at it and so it feels good to excel at something. But I like to think it's because yoga is awesome.

You better believe I can do these balance poses.

Lucas's Morning

Doing my hair...
Brushing my teeth...
Gotta shave off those whiskers...
Now hop on the Mater...
And go play at the park!
So happy!!!
