Just For Fun

These are just some fun random things from the past few days.

A few girls from the ward and I work out together in the mornings. Lucas loves to play with the other babies. He and another boy were sharing the truck. They did this by themselves.

Lately Lucas has been trying to climb on everything and he always starts by lifting that right leg up. Yesterday he almost made it over the bench at church and today he made in over the side of the bathtub.

Not only is Lucas getting good at climbing up, he's getting good at climbing down too. He's a pro at getting down from the couch. We're still working on the bed.

Yesterday I made a chicken pot pie for dinner. It was my first time making one and it was really good.

We were in charge of the ward ice cream social yesterday and this is what our freezer looked like.

And last but not least, Lucas just started doing this weird sniffing thing yesterday and he's been doing it non stop ever since. It's hilarious. Here's a picture in case the video doesn't work.

10 Months Old

Lucas is 10 months old today. He is getting so big! Here's some of the fun (and maybe not so fun) things he's been doing lately.

  • He LOVES to read. He looks at books all by himself, and he sits on our laps and lets us read to him. He's always been a huge fan of books but lately it seems like he can't get enough.
  • He is still sleeping through the night, now that we got daylight savings time and being sick out of the way.
  • He is getting pretty good at throwing tantrums. Last night he had a melt down because daddy took a pen away. We have a little terror on our hands.
  • He loves to shake everything (see video)
  • He loves to play in the refrigerator and the dishwasher. He gets really mad if we close the refrigerator door before he has a chance to bolt over and get into it, which doesn't happen very often because he is getting to be very fast.
  • He pushes everything around like a car - his toy cars, empty boxes of cereal, blocks, cell phones, remote controls ...
  • He loves outside. He gets so excited whenever the door opens and really mad if you close it without taking him outside. He would stay outside all day long if he could and he doesn't seem to care about how cold it is.

  • He is always talking non stop, mostly gibberish but we think we've heard a few mama's and dada's here and there. He makes the funniest noises, too (see video)
  • He loves to crawl up the stairs at grandma and grandpa George's house. He hasn't quite gotten the hang of going back down again, but he's only tried it like 4 times, give him a few more tries and he'll be a pro. He's an expert at getting down off the couch, though.
  • He also loves the puppies at his grandparent's house and he gets so excited when he sees them and tries so hard to play with them but they just aren't too sure about letting a baby poke their eyes.
  • He loves to play peek-a-boo
  • He can clap, but he does it with one hand open and the other a fist. It's pretty funny.
  • He gives High Fives, but usually only when he's in his car seat.
  • He loves to play in the bathtub, with or without water.
  • He loves to throw stuff and have us pick it up for him.
  • He is such a good eater, and he's pretty much eating the same foods as us now so I just make a little extra whenever I make a meal and just feed him the same stuff we're having. He had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich and bananas for lunch yesterday.
  • He loves to crawl under or over stuff. If you're standing up he crawls between your legs. If you're laying on the ground, he likes to climb on top of your head.
  • He loves to bang things together. I gave him this empty can as a drum and he LOVES it!
  • And lastly he loves his daddy. He gets so excited when daddy comes home and refuses to play with anyone but daddy for an hour.
We love our little 10 month old.

Pomegranate Frozen Yogurt

A while ago I mentioned that Ryan and I had gone to Red Mango and gotten some pomegranate frozen yogurt. It was so delicious and we are obsessed with it now. Well, for the last few weeks I've been experimenting with making our own frozen yogurt at home and I think I finally have a recipe that I'm satisfied with. Ryan has a friend that used to work at Red Mango that gave us a push in the right direction, although she said that they didn't add sugar to their recipe, but the yogurt that I made at home just didn't taste right without a little added sugar. If you want to try this recipe out, you have to make sure to get 100% pomegranate juice, with no sugar added. They have pomegranate juice cocktails that have sugar and other fruit juices added, but you do not want to use those. Red Mango uses POM brand pomegranate juice, but I have actually found that Langers All Pomegranate juice has a little bit of a stronger flavor and makes tastier frozen yogurt.

Pomegranate Frozen Yogurt
  • 2 Cups Plain Yogurt
  • 1 Cup Pomegranate Juice
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
Pour pomegranate juice and sugar into a sauce pan and heat on stove until sugar is just dissolved. Transfer mixture to a Tupperware container and put it in the refrigerator (1-2 hours). When the juice and sugar mixture is cold, remove and add the yogurt. Mix until well blended. Pour into ice cream machine and freeze like normal ice cream.

You can eat the frozen yogurt right away or let it set up in the freezer for an hour or so before eating. Enjoy!

Funny Baby

Lucas does some pretty funny stuff. Yesterday I caught two of those funny things on video. The first one is of him making funny noises with his tongue. He especially loves to do this really loudly in church.

He also really likes to shake stuff. He's always shaking everything. Here he is shaking his Mater truck and the dishwasher tray. That's another thing he loves to do, play in the dishwasher.

Fun Weekend

Lucas and I were starting to feel better this weekend so we decided to head up to Salt Lake to hang out with family and go out to eat. We decided to go to the Mayan since I had never been there before. It was the place to be on a Saturday night for the 12 and under crowd. There were at least 50 kids playing in front of the building waiting to be seated. I'm glad we brought Lucas so he could be at the kiddie hot spot. Here he is being eaten by a serpent.

We were seated on the fourth floor so we had a good view of the fire dancers and cliff jumpers. Lucas liked watching them. It was fun.

And we got a life jacket for Lucas at Costco the other day for really cheap. We're going to be doing a lot of swimming, and boating this summer so we figured we should probably keep this little guy safe. I decided to try it on him; he wasn't a huge fan since he couldn't move and he kept tipping over. But I thought he looked pretty dang cute.

Videos

We have a bunch of videos that we haven't gotten around to posting yet, but Ryan just showed me how to use the video rendering software so I think we'll have a lot more videos from now on. Some of these are pretty old. This first one is from December. The day we got back from my brother John's wedding Lucas started crawling on his hands and knees. Before it was just an army crawl.

I took this one in January when Lucas figured out how to unplug the night light. After I took this video we moved the night light so now Lucas can't electrocute himself.

This next video was also taken in January. My sister Julie got Lucas some days of the week bibs and they came wrapped around cardboard tubes. Lucas thought the tubes were pretty fun toys and then all by himself he started talking through them. I came over and joined him and he laughed his head off for probably an hour.

This video was taken in February shortly after I realized that Lucas could dance. I started playing music in the mornings while we were eating breakfast and Lucas would dance along in his high chair.

This video was taken in on Valentines day. Lucas learned how to stack the rings on this toy he got for Christmas. I accidentally got the order of the rings mixed up, but Lucas did his job just fine.

And this last video was just taken the other day. Lucas loves walking around the apartment with his Mater truck. He knows which buttons to press to play music too. He gets really mad when he runs into something and can't keep going. He cracks me up!

I Hope They Call Me on a Mission.....

My little brother, Joseph opened his mission call last night. He is going to be serving in the Micronesia, Guam mission. We're all very excited. This is the video we took of him opening his call, in case you're interested.

This Week

This week has been pretty awful. I don't want to complain too much but I just think that whoever thought up daylight savings did not have a baby. And if the hour time change weren't wrecking havoc enough on our schedule, throw in horrible colds for both mother and baby and you've got the perfect storm. So, I'm sorry I haven't been a very good blogger this week, but there really hasn't been anything worth blogging about. And that picture I posted yesterday of us wearing our green, well that's the first time I've actually brushed my hair all week so another reason that I haven't posted anything to the blog; I didn't want to scare anyone. But, Lucas slept through the night last night for the first time since he got sick last Thursday. And I haven't had to suck stuff out of his nose all day. And the weather is beautiful! Things are looking up...

My happy, sick little boy

Lucas has a cough and a high fever. But you wouldn't know by looking at him. He's been the happiest little sick baby.

Random Pictures

I was just going through the pictures on my camera and I found a few random cute ones I wanted to post. We went and took my sister's engagement pictures the other day and took a few of ourselves too. Ryan climbed up a wall to get the perfect shot.
Hanging out with mommy.

Eating daddy's nose.

Pushing a car around on the kitchen floor.

Helping mommy with the laundry.

On Saturday me and my sisters got together and did what we do best... we made yummy treats and watched a chick flick. We made two different type of desserts, raspberry cheesecakes and mascarpone cheese cupcakes.

The raspberry cheesecakes were so pretty.

And here's both of the treats. They were so yummy.

I forgot to take pictures of all of us enjoying our treats, but I took pictures of me and Lucas today cause we both looked cute.

I love this outfit!

Snow Babies

I was getting so excited with all the warm weather we've been having lately, and then all of a sudden we get a ton of snow overnight. Me and my sister decided to make the most of it and take the babies out in their snow suits to get some cute pictures.
