9 Months

Logan is such a little stud!  I love his cute little smiling face. When I take these month photos it's so fun trying to decide which of his current outfits or pajamas is my favorite.  Sometimes I can't pick just one, and then I have an even harder time picking which picture to use.  It's like when magazine's have different cover photos - I feel like I should make different options for his month photo cause I can't narrow it down.
He's really a very happy baby.  He's so smiley in the mornings when I get him from his crib.  He loves playing with Paige and Lucas and giggles when they chase and tickle him.  He plays on his own really well too, which is nice.  He's still such a finicky nurser, but it bothers me more than it does him.  He has gotten on a really good nap schedule which I'm really happy about.  He still doesn't sleep through the night, but he wakes up once to eat and goes right back to sleep, which is a whole lot easier for me than listening to him cry it out 2-3 times in the middle of the night.  I think maybe he's a bad eater during the day so he has to make up for it in the middle of the night.  Oh well. I feel like things go much more smoothly with Logan when I don't stress out about what I think he should be doing.  If I just let him do his thing he's so much happier.

He is SO close to walking.  He loves to walk around while I'm holding his hands, or holding on to whatever he can.  He walks with the Mater, the shopping cart, Paige's tricycle, the bathroom step stool - yesterday he was trying to walk with one of the kitchen chairs and it just wasn't moving as fast as he wanted but he was grunting and pushing so hard, he was determined!  He will stand really well without holding on to anything for long stretches of time now, he has good balance.

He's so proud of himself here.  He has taken steps lots of times before, but he just doesn't trust himself yet so he takes steps and then sits down, or just sits down right away and won't even try.  Last Sunday he was walking a bunch and showing off for my parents, and every time since then that I've tried to get it on camera, he refuses to perform. I'm thinking he'll be walking more than just a few steps in another week.  In the mean time he can just keep using whatever he can find to push, or hold onto my hands, which is his preference.

Logan's balance is a little better now, but when we took this video, if ever he would lose his grip on one of my hands, he would just fall like that. Silly baby. Also when he first started walking around with the Mater, he wasn't very good at steering so he would be super happy pushing in a straight line, but as soon as he got stuck he would scream.  I feel a little bad watching this video and hearing us all laughing at him, but we couldn't help it, it's just too funny!

Logan also really loves climbing up the slide.  He has gotten pretty good.  He climbs up to the top and then sits there and waits for me to help him slide down.  Sometimes he'll climb up there when I'm not watching and then I'll look over and he's just sitting there waiting patiently.  He's so silly.

We are having so much fun with this little guy.

The Quadcopter

Ryan got a quadcopter for Christmas.  He's had a fun time going to the park and working on his piloting skills.  Sometimes when it's late or raining, though, we fly the quadcopter in the house.
Ryan has taught Lucas how to fly it a bit too.  He's actually pretty good.
Logan is mesmerized by the quadcopter.
And here's a video of Lucas making the quadcopter do a flip.

7 Months

I thought this onesie was especially appropriate for this month picture, because he has been really getting around this month, like a little turtle except much faster. He was a slow crawler last month, but this month he has gotten fast, and has figured out what he's not supposed to be getting into, and crawls to it as quickly as he can.  The stairs are his favorite and he will make a bee line for them if I don't put the gate up.  He will do the same with the top of the stairs, but does not know how to climb down them, so that really isn't as much fun for him and I don't know why he's determined to keep going for them. Good thing he's cute! As smiley as ever.
He also does this funny crawling thing where he'll crawl on his hands and feet, not his hands and knees.  He does it when he's not wearing pants and he's on the cold floor.  It's hilarious and it makes me laugh every time.

We've been doing more solid foods this month, including smoothies because he has already figured out how to work a straw.  I love being able to get my kids to eat fruits and veggies so easily, and now Logan has joined in.  It's great! He loves everything he has tries and is always grabbing at my food. His first tooth also broke through just a few days ago.  He has been working on that one for a while.  Soon he'll be eating much more exciting foods, and he can't wait!

6 Months

I know I'm like 2 weeks late with this post.  I didn't have time to take pictures before we left for Christmas, and then we were too busy to take pictures on Christmas eve which was his actual 6 month mark, and then after that he got sick and his eyes have been so red and puffy for the last two weeks I felt bad taking a picture of him.  Oh well.  He was such a sweet, smiley baby while he was sick, but I'm glad that he's finally starting to get better. It's been rough nursing a stuffy baby.  He was having a really hard time with nursing a few months ago but has gotten a lot better in the last month and a half.  We also discovered that he hates being cold.  He was not super impressed by the chilly temperatures over Christmas.

He has been crawling for almost 2 months now and has stayed pretty slow and didn't get in to too much until this last week or so.  Now he's fast and has started getting in to everything.  He also couldn't ever climb the stairs because his legs were too short to get up over the stair, but just yesterday he realized he's tall enough now and he makes a bee line for the stairs every chance he gets.  He's fast getting up the stairs too.  Luckily I have a Lucas that is obsessed with Logan and will sit behind him and watch him while he's playing on the stairs.
I'm pretty sure that Logan is teething because he has been chewing and drooling on everything.  The teeth haven't come through yet but they look close.  He also loves to drink cold water from cups, and just chew on the cup too.  He always tries to grab food from us and seems very interested in eating.  I haven't done a ton of solid foods with him yet, but will probably start trying them on a regular basis in the next week or so.  He has had oatmeal, bananas, bread, and mashed potatoes, and he seems to love everything he tries.

The other thing I love about Logan right now is the fluffy hair he has growing in.  It's getting long enough that you really notice it now, but it's still short enough that it sticks straight up.  I love it.  I tried to get pictures of it but he wouldn't hold still long enough for me to take any, so I had to just take some while he was asleep.  He's so cute!  I just love his fluffy hair!

5 Months

Logan has grown so much this last month!  Seriously!  Not only did he start crawling and sitting up, (in that order-weirdo baby), but he gained 2 lbs and grew 2 inches.  He's getting so big.  He's still super shaky on his crawling and sitting so hopefully he can work on getting better at that in the next month instead of just moving on to walking which is what I swear he wants to do.  He's always trying to stand up on stuff and sometimes when he's crawling he'll put his feet down on the ground instead of his knees and act like he's trying to stand up.
Logan has not been a great nurser for the last few months.  It's been very frustrating.  I never know if it's my supply, or if it's just that he doesn't want to eat, but it has been a real struggle.  Normally I wait until 6 months to start solid foods, but I decided to start earlier with Logan because I wanted something else to be able to give him if he wouldn't nurse or if I didn't have any milk.  He LOVES food!  He has taken to solid foods better than either Paige or Lucas.  I don't feed him rice cereal every day but when I do he gobbles it right up.  I fed him some mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving and he was pretty excited about it.  He kept grabbing the fork and trying to shove it in his mouth.  He can even eat little pieces of bread.  Here's the video I took of his eating mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving.

He's really started to develop a cute little personality, and with his new found mobility really likes to get into stuff and terrorize his siblings.  I just love this little guy.

Logan Crawling

Logan is crawling! I can't even believe it! He's only 4 months old. He's been getting up onto all fours and moving one hand or knee and lunging forward for a couple weeks now.  But last night he took multiple "steps" and went from trying to crawl to crawling.  He's obviously still a little shaky, but holy crap, he's only 4 months!  He can even almost go from the crawling position to a sitting position.  And he can't even sit up yet.  What a crazy baby!  I love his little thing he does with his feet in the beginning of the video.

4 months

4 months feels like a big milestone to me.  I feel like Logan has really transitioned from the newborn phase where they just lay there and don't do anything and cry all the time, to being an older baby that spends a majority of his day playing either with us or on his own and has started to develop a cute little personality  He loves to be on his stomach.  It's hard to keep him on his back sometimes; he's always rolling.  He's been sleeping on his stomach for a while now too.

He loves to gobble up his hands and will sometimes jam them so far in that he chokes on them.  He will gobble pretty much anything he can get into his mouth and loves to munch on his blankets.  He also just grabs anything he can get his hands on, so when I'm shopping with him in the baby Bjorn I sometimes end up with more than I intended because he grabs stuff and pulls it off the shelf.  He loves to pull hair too.  One of my favorites is when babies discover their feet, and Logan just found his.  He needs help getting them into his mouth, but he loves gobbling those too when he can.

He got sick for the first time just this weekend.  He just has a little cold, so not too bad, but the poor little guy is having a hard time eating and sleeping.  He seems totally normal other than that, though, and plays all day long with his siblings.

Logan surprisingly loves his brother and sister, despite the fact that they keep stepping on him and Paige just terrorizes him half the time.  He especially loves Lucas and lights up when he sees him.  Lucas really loves Logan too.  He has been obsessed with him from day one and will just sit and tickle and play with Logan for forever.  He really has a special bond with Logan and it's so cute to see.
I took this video yesterday and Logan is still sick so he's not quite as giggly as he normally is, but it's still cute to see them playing.  Lucas will often say to me, "Mom, he's SO cute!" or "Do you see how cute this baby is?"  I love it!

Sometimes when Logan is grumpy and I'm busy with something, I have Lucas walk around with him for me.  Logan loves getting carried around by his big brother.
I just love this picture!

Logan Talking and Smiling

Logan has been smiling for the last few weeks but it has been really hard to catch it on camera.  He's really smiley in the mornings especially.  He just lights up when he sees us.  I finally got a picture of him smiling at Lucas.  It's not really that big of a smile, but it's the best I've been able to get.
He's so handsome.
And I love this face that he makes.
Logan seems so much more vocal than I remember my other two being.  He likes to talk and coo at us when he's happy.  It's really cute!  He also is really vocal when he's unhappy.  He has some serious volume.  He'll be sitting there eating in the middle of the night and everything is silent, and then he'll get upset about something and just start screaming this high pitched banshee scream.  It's not as cute as his cooing, I'll tell you that much.  Here's a video of him talking.  The first half is him talking to me, and the second half is him talking to Lucas.  He really seems to like Lucas, and Lucas is obsessed with him!

Logan VS Lucas Comparison

I was going through some baby pictures of Lucas to see how he and Logan compare and I was surprised by how similar they are.  Lucas was looking at the pictures with me and he thought they were of Logan.  When I actually put the pictures side by side I can definitely tell the difference, but they sure do look a lot alike.  Can you tell who is who?

First picture Lucas is on top, second Lucas is on the left, and third Lucas is on the right.  Lucas and Logan act a lot alike as newborns too, which is funny because the pregnancies were so similar.  They both hated/hate being swaddled, and neither of them was/is as much of an angel as Paige - but I don't think it's possible to have another baby as perfect as Paige.  And they both gained a ton of weight in the beginning.  We had Logan's first dr appointment today and he weighs 9lbs, 15 oz.  He's gained a pound and a half in three weeks.  Overall Logan has been pretty good.  It's easier with second and third babies because you know what you're doing.  With Lucas we were just clueless.  We are starting to get into a rhythm and I'm starting to get used to three kids all on my own.  We've had a lot of help from friends and family too, which is nice!

I've been trying to come up with activities here at home to keep Lucas and Paige entertained without having to turn on the tv.  We've been going to the park too, but when it gets really hot I don't want to go outside.  We've done a lot of playing with sidewalk chalk, and building forts with the couch cushions.  The other day we used the cushions to jump around.  The kids loved this activity - obviously!

Today I decided to make a color scavenger hunt list for Lucas.  I gave him a check list of different colors and told him to find something in each color.  He found a few things in each color and spent almost an hour searching around for them.  These are most of the things he found.  A few of the things were too big for the picture.  He was getting really into it.  We will definitely be repeating this one.

Lucas can Read!

These last few weeks I feel like Lucas has made some huge advancements.  It's like something in his brain just clicked and now he can read.  He can actually read really well.  I'm surprised sometimes at what words he can pick up.  He's been practicing his writing too.  We got a white board and he will sit there and try to spell different words.  He does a pretty good job on his own, but needs help figuring out some of the harder words.  I took a video of him today because I want to be able to remember when he started being able to read and write.

He can read a lot of our books too, although I'm sure some of that is just memorization.  He has a really good memory!  He gave a talk in primary a few weeks ago and we sat down and wrote it the morning of.  It was only a few sentences long, but it had big words like forgivness, and after going over it a few times, he basically had it memorized.  I think he just kinda looked at the words and either read it or used the first letter of the big words to remind him what word came next.  He got up there in front of everyone and read/recited it.  I was so impressed.

He has been in to math lately as well.  This is another area where I think memorization helps him, but I think he understands the concept too.  He knows 1+1, 2+2, 3+3, all the way to 10+10. Sometimes he plays with the calculator and punches in numbers to see what they equal.  I know I'm biased, but I think he might be a genius!

Just Like Mommy

We've been bad at taking photos and updating the blog lately.  I have been working on nursery decorations for the new baby that I hope to post soon, though.  Paige has been doing a lot of funny things lately that I wanted document.  It's funny because most of these things are things that I did when I was a baby.

She has been making the most ridiculous faces lately.  Some of them are silly, but most of them are grumpy faces.  My mom told me I used to make the grumpiest faces at the doctor when I was a baby, and I have a pretty good grumpy/crusty stare I use as an adult to put people in their place.  I'm sure she means these faces to put us in our places, but I just laugh every time she makes one.
Paige and Lucas have been playing a little better lately.  He still doesn't let her do much or touch pretty much any of his toys, but every once in a while he makes up a game for them to play and she plays right along with him.  It's pretty cute.
Paige and Lucas have both been really in to dancing lately.  Paige's favorite is dancing on top of the table.  I loved dancing when I was a baby and would always dance on the table for everyone.  Another way that Paige is just like her mommy.  I tried to get pictures or a video this morning but this is the best I got.  I swear these kids will dance for hours but as soon as I pull out the camera, all of a sudden they are done and will refuse to dance any longer.
I did get a video of them dancing in their room a few weeks ago.  Paige usually gets way more into the dancing, but since I pulled out the camera, she decided to just play with her phone.  Go figure.  Oh well, at least for part of it she's showing off her moves.

Paige the Terror and Videos

Paige really is still such a good baby, but compared to what an angel she was when she was a newborn that never moved - the mobile Paige that gets into everything is a little terror!  She LOVES shoes, she will go after them over anything else.  The only problem is she likes to eat them, especially the bottoms where all the dirt and e. coli is.
She took out every single baby wipe in this wipes container.  She was pretty proud of herself.
She is a good little eater, though.  She loves food and she is fast.  I put food on her tray and look back a few minutes later and all the food is gone.  I always think maybe she just dumped it all on the floor, but no, she's just a fast eater.  She loves bananas, grapes, strawberries, goldfish, and cheese.
Paige has gotten a lot better at walking in the last few weeks.  She has actually been able to stand up in the middle of the floor without holding anything since a few days after she started walking, but she has only been able to walk across the room without falling for about a week now.

Paige LOVES slides.  She loves to climb up them, and she loves to slide down them.  Here's two videos of her on slides.

Paige loves Lucas and Lucas loves Paige.  They are so cute together.  I want to just video tape them for a whole day so I can capture all the cute stuff they do.  Lucas will play bad guys with Paige and she will chase after him growling and he will knock her over and she will just laugh and laugh.  Here's a video of Lucas tickling Paige.

I can't believe how quickly the summer and Paige's first year are going by.  We're having fun, though!

Ruffle Bum

A few days after my ultrasound where we found out that Paige was a girl, Ryan and I bought these ruffled bloomers.  We got them in 6-12 months because we thought they would be adorable on a little bum crawling around on the floor - and boy were we right.
They are also pretty cute climbing up the stairs.
Paige LOVES the stairs.  She's not very fast climbing them yet, but she still loves it.  She gets so mad when I put up the baby gate so she can't get to them.  Here's a video of her blowing raspberries and climbing.  Ignore the fact that Lucas isn't wearing pants.  I just can not get this kid to keep his clothes on.

Paige is getting 4 top teeth all at once right now.  She is not a very happy camper.  I keep her drugged up most of the time and it helps.  Paige has always loved shoving things into her mouth, but especially now that she's teething - EVERYTHING gets chewed on.  Her favorites are electrical cords, cell phones, car keys, and pretty much anything she's not supposed to have.  If she sees them, all of a sudden she's a speed crawler trying to get to it before we take it away.  Here's just a few of the things she shoved in her mouth today.  I love the one where you can't even see her face cause she shoving something in it.
One of my favorite chew toys of the day - Lucas's laundry hamper.
She had fun exploring in there too.
She has gotten to be pretty mobile lately.  She pulls up to stand on everything, and has started cruising.  She lets go and tries to stand on her own sometimes too.  She is getting to be so big and so much fun!

Videos and the Mail

Paige does some really funny and cute stuff so I've been trying to get videos to document all the adorableness.  Here's just a few.

The first is probably the most boring, but I feel like I always go off about what an angel Paige is and so I wanted to give you some proof.  Paige always wakes up so happy, she doesn't even usually cry when she wakes up, she just starts talking and crawling around.  I took this video this morning when she very first woke up.  Normally I would let her sit there and wake up a little bit before going in, and when I do that she has a little more energy and gets up and laughs when I walk in.  This morning, though, I went right in because she slept 11 hours without eating and I was ready for her to eat.  Anyway, like I said it's a little boring and a little long, but she's just so sweet.  This is Paige, first thing in the morning, and starving.

Paige has discovered those springy doorstops on the backs of doors and she loves to play with them.

This last video is of Paige's new favorite thing to play with - Lucas's big blue ball.  She gets SUPER excited when she sees it, as you can hear in the beginning before she crawls into view, and then she just goes crazy.  She is so funny!

And the last thing that Paige has been into lately is ripping up the newspaper and ads that we get in the mail.  She thinks it is hilarious.
Check out these action shots.
Lucas loves to join in.  He pretends he's a baby and rips the mail into these ridiculously small pieces that are impossible to clean up.  It's kinda annoying, but it makes him happy.

Bath Time and Crawling

We gave Paige her first bubble bath last week.  She was a little freaked out by the bubbles at first.  But she got used to them after a while.
And she liked playing with her brother.
I took this video over a week ago and I am finally getting around to posting it.  Paige can crawl now!  It's this  little timid crawl, she goes really slow and carefully.  It is so cute!  She still does it over a week later.  It's nice because she goes slow enough that I can move what she's crawling towards if it's not something I want her to have.  We haven't really baby proofed yet.  She falls right at the beginning of the video; she doesn't really fall anymore, but I think it's so funny and cute in the video.

And here she is, so proud of herself that she got the car.
We are all loving this stage that she is in.  She's mobile and likes to play and interact more and it's a lot of fun!

Army Crawl

Paige is getting so close to crawling.  She does a pretty good army crawl, and I'm guessing she'll be full on crawling in a couple days.  She's just been getting better and better every day.  We were trying to get her to crawl one night, and she wasn't interested in any of the toys we were trying to entice her with, and then Lucas pulled out this book for me to read it to him, and we had to keep moving because Paige was going crazy trying to get the book.
She LOVES this book for some reason.  And here's a video of the army crawl.

We've been trying out more foods lately to get Paige eating.  She loves breads and crackers.  Yesterday she had some whole wheat toast and berry smoothie with me for breakfast.  She just sucks on the bread until it's mushy enough for her to swallow.  She has also tried graham crackers and apple slices.  She actually eats the graham crackers, but she mostly just chews on the apples.  I really think she might be getting her top teeth in right now, so the cold hard apple slices feel good to her gums.
And now that Paige is sitting up so well, she has been having fun sitting on the Mater.  Lucas likes sharing until Paige starts trying to suck on everything, which is like two seconds after we put her on.  Oh well, he'll get over it.  This is around the age that Lucas got the Mater for Christmas.

Big Brother

Lucas has been such a good big brother so far.  He's always asking about Paige and making sure he knows where she is at all times.  He tries to calm her when she cries by getting her pacifier, patting her, or singing her a song.  He sang her a song when she was crying the other day and it was seriously the sweetest thing I've ever seen.  This morning I mentioned to Ryan that we should start reading books to Paige and Lucas ran up with his most recent favorite The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Silly Lucas

Lucas has done some pretty funny stuff lately.  He's always saying funny stuff and I need to start being better about writing it down so I can remember.  The other day I made myself a salad for lunch.  I started eating it and Lucas asked me, "you eating grass, mommy?"  I guess that's what it looks like to a toddler.

He's also been more interested in his baby sister lately.  I had been trying to get him to feel her kicking, but every time he was calm enough to sit and wait for it, she wouldn't budge, so I told him she was sleeping.  She's kinda lazy, she doesn't kick anywhere near as often as Lucas did.  He did finally feel her kick the other day for the first time.  He seemed pretty excited about it at the time, but hasn't been interested in feeling her kick since.  Lucas does ask me now all the time if baby sister is awake or sleeping, though.  The other morning he asked me if she was hungry for breakfast.  He also likes to read book to her, which is just the cutest thing in the world.  I hope he's this nice and attentive to her after she's born.
The other day while we were at the store shopping, Lucas saw a little wooden birdhouse and decided he wanted to get it and paint it.  It was only a dollar so I went ahead and got it.  Here he is painting it.
And here he is with the finished birdhouse.  He was SO proud of himself.
We've gone out to admire the birdhouse 5 times a day since he made it.  He had so much fun painting it, and it took up a good hour.  There's not many activities we've done that have lasted that long, so I was pretty happy about that.  Best dollar I ever spent!

Lucas has started being even more of a dare devil lately than he used to be.  When he rides his tricycle he takes his hands off the handle bars and tries to see how long he can go like that.  He's always climbing up on the couch and trying to jump to stuff.  And the other day I realized that he can climb up onto the counters without a chair.  I took video of it to show you all how much like a monkey he's become.  The first climb is pretty straight forward, but the second one he gets pretty creative.  My rock climbing relatives should be pretty impressed.  I think he's ready to take it to the next level, we might have to make a trip to the rock climbing gym when we visit next.
