Discovery

So, we just discovered something wonderful yesterday. We used to always rock Lucas to sleep because he's a baby and that's what you do, but he would always fight it and we just figured he hated going to sleep. Turns out, he just wants his space. He just wants to get down to business. Yesterday we started just laying him down and giving him a pacifier and after literally 10 seconds of fussing, he was out. Now, almost 2 full days later, it's still working. Sometimes he fusses for longer, sometimes he doesn't fuss at all. It's amazing! Today around 12 he started acting sleepy so I took him into his room, laid him down, gave him his pacifier, went to make myself a sandwich, went back in to check on him, and he was out cold.

Then I ate my sandwich and relaxed. It was wonderful. He still likes being cuddled and rocked sometimes, like when he wakes up in the middle of his nap and is still sleepy, or when he first wakes up and he's still sleepy, but so far every time we put him down to sleep, he falls asleep all on his own. Hopefully he will keep this up because we like it.

Here he is on his afternoon walk after his 3 hour nap. Wonderful!

Oh, and for those of you wondering, we do have an advanced baby, but I'm also very good at Photoshop.

Weird

Lately some weird things have been happening. We go to bed at night and when we wake up in the morning things look like they have been moved. Food has even been disappearing from the refrigerator. We installed some hidden cameras to try and catch the culprit and look who we found roaming around at night.

Here's Lucas just hanging out and playing with the toys in his room. I guess that's not that bad but look at what else he's been up to.

We really need to teach him how to pull down his diaper.

Hey, no solid foods till you're older mister.

So that's why the keys are always sticky in the morning.

Looks like we're going to have to start baby-proofing a little earlier than I thought.

10 Weeks

I can't believe my baby is 10 weeks old already. He still seems so young and yet I'm constantly amazed by what he can do. He's pretty much always been able to hold his head up on his own and now that he's getting older he's even better at controlling his movements. Today I took the newborn hammock part off his bathtub so he could sit more in the water. He LOVED it. He just sat there and splashed for a long time and seemed to enjoy the extra freedom. He's also been spending a lot more time just playing, by himself and with me and Ryan. It used to be that there wasn't a whole lot of time for anything between sleeping and eating, except for crying of course. But now he usually has a good 30 - 60 minutes of play time in between eating and sleeping where he just sits there and kicks and smiles. I love it. During his play time he has started trying to roll over. He can only get up on his side and he isn't even close to getting all the way over, but he tries so hard and he seems to like being on his side when he gets there. Here he is eating his hand this morning. That's usually what he does once he gets on his side.

And later I went in to check on him while he was napping and this is what I found.

That's the first time he hasn't cried as soon as he woke up. He was just sitting there playing on his own. It was so cute.

A few weeks ago I took a bunch of pictures of Lucas and I haven't gotten around to putting them up on the blog so here you go. There were a bunch of pictures I liked so I just made a collage.

And here are some other random pictures that we took one day cause his outfit was so cute.

I'm just having so much fun with this little guy. He coos and laughs and wiggles and I just love it!
