1 week old

Lucas is one week old today. He had a very eventful first week of life. He had his first car ride.

He had his first bath.

He liked it at first, but then he decided he didn't like getting clean. Don't worry, the second bath went better.

He went on his first picnic.

He tried out his swing. He loves his swing; he could sit in it all day.

He had his first blow out.

We were so proud we had to take a picture. He's also wet all over the place during a diaper change like 6 times. It's his favorite thing to do. He even got the remote one time. I think he was aiming.

Lucas like to sleep all day long, and stay up late at night.

He loves to sleep and it takes him like 20 minutes to wake up. He makes grumpy faces the whole time too, just to let us know that he's not happy about it. He is definitely his daddy's son. He loves his daddy.

He also had tons of friends and family come visit him this week.

And we'll have even more next week because he has lots of family coming out for his baby blessing next Sunday. Thanks to everyone who visited, and helped out during this first week and helped me get ready for the baby before. This first week has been overwhelming and recuperation was definitely more than I expected, but it wasn't so bad cause I had help and friends. Thanks guys.

He's Here!!!

Most of you have probably heard by now, but he's here. Lucas Ryan George was born on Sunday, May 24th at 3:59 am. He weighed 8 lbs 3oz, and was 19 inches long. On Saturday morning at 6am I started having contractions. I got up and did the laundry and packed the hospital bag and got everything ready. Around 10am I decided the contractions were getting pretty bad (I had no idea) and close together so we left for the hospital. After being there for an hour or so they decided I wasn't progressing enough and sent me home. By this point the contractions were getting worse so I begged for some drugs. With a shot of morphine, I was able to take a nap and relax at home for a while. Then we went to the store and got a bunch of last minute baby things that we hadn't gotten before. While we were at the store the morphine started to wear off and the contractions got really bad so I made Ryan take me to the hospital again. He kept trying to distract me with other things before we went back to the hospital, cause he was worried they would turn us away again, but I was getting pretty grumpy by this point and wouldn't let him. We got back to the hospital at about 8 pm and they gave me some more morphine while they were checking me out trying to decide if I was progressed enough to let me stay. This morphine did absolutely nothing for the pain but luckily they decided that I was far enough along to give me the epidural. Once the epidural kicked in, I was feeling much better and I napped off and on for the next few hours. Ryan didn't have the luxury of drugs so he was wide awake and in an uncomfortable chair the whole time. Around 11 pm they broke my water but things didn't progress exactly as the doctor had hoped. Eventually we found out that was because Lucas was facing the wrong direction so his head didn't fit quite right. At 2pm I started pushing but Lucas's heart rate was getting too high and the doctor realized that he was turned the wrong way and that was making it difficult to push him out. He had to get out the forceps and try to turn Lucas. He was worried that it wouldn't work and we'd have to do a c-section, but everything went very smoothly and the doctor got him turned. The nurses said they had never seen a turn go so well. We were very lucky. Lucas was such a calm baby when he was born, he didn't cry that much, but he was breathing just fine. He was just really interested in everything around him. I was very impressed at how well Ryan did during the delivery too. Ryan doesn't like blood or hospitals and I was really worried he was going to pass out during the delivery, but he stood there the whole time and did a great job. The nurses had to go and get him some sprite at one point cause he started to look pale, and he looked at the placenta afterwards, bad idea, but other than that he did great.

Lucas and I came home from the hospital last night. We're both doing really well and so far things are going great. I have a lot of family in town and my mom is staying with us to help out. Hopefully we'll get the hang of this parents thing in no time.

Giant Cupcake

Well, we're still waiting for the baby. I have been having a lot of contractions, but they are just practice ones and they aren't painful or frequent yet. It's kind of morbid that I'm wishing for pain. I'm pretty sure I'll be regretting it soon enough. In the mean time Ryan and I are just working and trying to see as many movies as possible per your suggestions. We're also sleeping as much as possible, and will hopefully fit in a trip to the temple tomorrow night. I'm a little nervous about this cause I know as soon as we get there I'll go into labor, but we're risking it.

We don't have anything else very exciting to update you all on, so I will post some old pictures. A few weeks ago my sisters and I got together to hang out and make goodies. My sister Julie had purchased a giant cupcake pan from Williams-Sonoma and we decided to try it out. This is the picture on the front of the packaging.

We decided to make a coconut cream cupcake. Ours did not look quite as nice as the picture on the packaging. It was kind of a disaster.

Once it was frosted and we took the picture from a certain angle it didn't look too bad, but still not even close to the picture.

It tasted amazing, though. I loved the flavor and am probably going to try making the cake again in a normal pan. We tried our luck with the giant cupcake again a bit later for my brother Bret's birthday. It looked a little better, but still not a success. We're going to have to work to perfect our giant cupcake making skills.

And here's a picture of Dallin, who was there for all of the experimenting, but didn't get to eat any of it. He didn't look too happy about it. What do you think, though, will his eyes be brown or blue? I'm thinking blue.

HOLY CRAP!

Guys, I only have like 3 weeks left. The doctor says I'll probably go over so I have more like 4 weeks left, but still... I'm getting really close. I'm so anxious for our little baby to get here. I basically just sit around and wish he already was. Not only does this make the day go by a lot slower, I know someday I'll wish that I had gotten out and done stuff that I won't be able to do later. Everyone I talk to says, "savor this time that you have with just your husband and do all those things you can't do later". Here's the thing, though, I don't have a baby yet so I don't really know what those things are. Right now all I want is that little baby so when I think about stuff I want to do right now I come up with a list like:

Sit and stare at cute baby
Go on picnic with Ryan and baby
Go on walk with Ryan and baby
Dress baby up in cute clothes and take pictures
Stare at cute baby some more

And I know I really have no experience with this but even when I try to think of stuff that we can't do with a baby I can't come up with anything. I feel like we will always be able to put our baby in one of those carrier things and tote him around town and he will sit and coo and be adorable. So help me out guys. Give me some ideas of things to do to pass the time these next few weeks that I won't be able to do later.

Watch Katie's belly grow!

We've tried to take pictures every few weeks of Katie's belly so that we can watch the progress. Its amazing to remember how skinny she was before she got pregnant! We hope you enjoy.
