We're Going on Vacation

Okay, maybe just I'm going on vacation - Ryan is going for a job interview. Ryan has been interviewing with companies lately and now comes the second interviews. One of Ryan's top choices, National Instruments, is flying him out to Austin, Texas for a second interview on December 17th. They are also flying me and Lucas out and putting us up in a hotel for three nights so we can spend some time in Austin and decide if it's somewhere we'd like to live. So far they are making a pretty good impression.

Ryan's brother and his family live in Austin so we'll get to spend some time with them while we're there. I'm also planning on spending some time at the hotel pool because it's a sunny 74 degrees there right now and outside my door is a blustery 37 degrees. And it might snow tomorrow. Come December we'll be welcoming the warm weather with open arms. Any ideas on what we should do while we're there?

Austin is high on my list of places I would love to live. Not, that I've ever been there - but the fact that they have no winter (!!), U of T, and a super cool bookstore (BookPeople) makes it seem like the perfect destination to me.

Good luck to Ryan!

Take a tour of the State Capitol. It's quite impressive and see the U of T campus and where Derek works.

You can come visit me! It looks like it's an 18 hour drive so you can spend you whole trip driving! And you get to go through Arkansas! (This idea is sounding worse and worse.) I vote for hanging out by the pool.

We lived in Austin when John and Julie were little. One of our favorite things to do was to go to Town Lake (downtown) and rent a canoe and paddle out and feed the ducks with a loaf of bread.

Be sure and eat some authentic Texas BBQ!

Austin is an amazing city to live in!! We'd come visit you there. Make sure you get some good BBQ and go listen to some good music and stroll the riverwalk.

Oh, we have LOTS of ideas. We are going to be working very hard to make sure you fall in love with Austin..and then keeping our fingers crossed that Ryan gets the job! Great suggestions in the other comments, except for the derisive remark by Sheri about Arkansas. I take offense at that, being a loyal Arkansan. :)

We just found a BBQ place last weekend that we LOVE.

Wait, does this mean you're not moving to the bay area?! :( That's my sad face. I guess Austin can be an alright place. But it would be more fun if you lived nearby.

Umm... I just spent a week in Austin and it wasn't warm enough for the pool-- unless it's indoors.

The food there is awesome and cheap! Plus I LOVE HEB (it's a grocery store). Have fun!!
