Discovery

So, we just discovered something wonderful yesterday. We used to always rock Lucas to sleep because he's a baby and that's what you do, but he would always fight it and we just figured he hated going to sleep. Turns out, he just wants his space. He just wants to get down to business. Yesterday we started just laying him down and giving him a pacifier and after literally 10 seconds of fussing, he was out. Now, almost 2 full days later, it's still working. Sometimes he fusses for longer, sometimes he doesn't fuss at all. It's amazing! Today around 12 he started acting sleepy so I took him into his room, laid him down, gave him his pacifier, went to make myself a sandwich, went back in to check on him, and he was out cold.

Then I ate my sandwich and relaxed. It was wonderful. He still likes being cuddled and rocked sometimes, like when he wakes up in the middle of his nap and is still sleepy, or when he first wakes up and he's still sleepy, but so far every time we put him down to sleep, he falls asleep all on his own. Hopefully he will keep this up because we like it.

Here he is on his afternoon walk after his 3 hour nap. Wonderful!

Oh, and for those of you wondering, we do have an advanced baby, but I'm also very good at Photoshop.

What works for us, is to put a pillow over the baby's face until they stop crying.

Works every time.

Congrats! I know how hard it is to get a regular sleeping pattern down. And you will thank yourself for all this hard work when he sends himself off to dreamland and can put himself back to sleep if woken up. You'll love it. Good luck!!

Well, I--for one--am not at all surprised. Lucas is clearly a very superior baby and quite advanced for his age. Plus, he has a mom that loves to get her full daily requirement of sleep so I'm thinking it might be genetic.
Good job at getting him started on the right track. There is nothing more frustrating than babies that don't sleep properly.

PS this is NOT Joseph. I don't know how to get his name off the screen. Its your mom. The one who is "computer impaired".
