Picky Eaters

I tried giving Paige solid foods about a month ago and she liked it the first two times, and then she decided she didn't want anything to do with it at all.  Now she gags on it and refuses to even try.  And don't even get me started on bottles, she won't even look at one without freaking out.  Which isn't too big a deal, except for I've been having some milk supply problems and she's really cranky and hungry when my supply is low, and I want to be able to give her something to eat, but she won't cooperate.  She's always grabbing at my plate and trying to eat my food, and she liked taking sips of my smoothie last week, but I felt like I needed to stick to the traditional rice cereal and baby food for the first little while.  Well, I took her to her 6 month doctors appointment today and the doctor said if she wants smoothies and food off the table, to go for it.  He said to give her bits of berries and pasta and veggies.  He even told me to try giving her tiny bits of ground up hamburger and chicken.  Pretty sure the doctor had a momentary lapse in memory and forgot that she's only 6 months old, but I don't care, I'm going to go for it anyway.  I made Paige a berry and yogurt smoothie, and she drank like 2 ounces of it through a straw.  Who needs bottles anyway!
Now I just need to start adding veggies and rice cereal to the smoothies and I think we'll be in business.  Lucas is a picky eater too and he loves smoothies.  Looks like I just need to look up some good recipes.

That cold smoothie probably feels really good on her new teeth, too. They are both so cute.

Max went through the phase where he didn't like bottles but it was because he was getting his front teeth in. call it bad advice, but someone told me to let him watch baby Einstein on youtube while I fed him and it totally worked! He would take a bottle no problem. it's the only screen time he gets, but I didn't have to stress about him not eating. I think next time around I'll try the straw idea. Your kids are getting so big, and are so dang cute!

I don't think there's anything wrong with feeding babies table food at a young age. As long as you do a little at a time, they LOVE it (especially those 2nd kids who want to be just like their older siblings).

Also, if you are looking for helps to get Paige take a bottle -- after all our trouble with Benji he HAD to take a bottle so we knew that he was getting enough calories. But of course he refused it until my sister suggested adding a tbsp of vanilla coffee creamer to his bottle. Kid sucked it down like it was candy. We used it for a bit until he was okay with the bottle and then we stopped using it and he didn't seem to mind. Just a suggestion. Good luck! THose two are growing up so big!
